Public transport
Public transportation system is well developed in our city as in many other Russian cities. Most part of citizens have to use public transport everyday and can only dream about their own cars. Public transport is often overcrowded and not always clean but extremely cheap (ticket costs 5 rubles=$0.17 doesn't matter of the distance of the trip). Buses (http://www.ekaterinburg.tv/images/Maps/bus_map.jpg) are the main city transport. There are about 100 routes connecting all parts of the city. Trams (http://www.ekaterinburg.tv/images/Maps/tram_map.jpg) are less reliable city transport as if there is an accident with one tram all trams stop and all schedule is broken. Sometimes it happens. It is also rather noisy. In rush hours it's faster than a bus because buses are stuck in traffic jams. Trolleybuses (http://www.ekaterinburg.tv/images/Maps/trolleybus_map.jpg) are rather reliable. They use electricity as power supply but wheels as if it would be a bus. Trolley-buses can be very fast if traffic is not big. The trolley-bus week point is the frost. In winter, when the temperature is sometimes -25 C and lower they all can stop.
Route taxi is the fastest public transport in our city. This is minivan usually for 7-10 people. It usually goes on a busy route connecting distinct parts of the city with the city center. It is growing at the moment and more and more new routes are opening. Some routes follow the same route with buses but route taxi is much faster. You can stop it wherever you want on a route but cannot point the direction where to go. Ticket price varies as route taxi are owned by private transport companies but also cheap (8 rubles=$0.27) Ekaterinburg underground (http://www.ekaterinburg.tv/underground.htm)is famous because this is the shortest (7 stations) underground in Russia. It connects distinct part of the city Uralmash and city center.
